Mohau-Kanana


- Mohau means 'compassion'.

- This project runs in the Kanana Township in Orkney, a mining town northwest of Johannesburg. This township counts 200.000 inhabitants.

- Led by Father Frans Samyn, a Belgian priest, who has been living in South Africa for 49 years.

- The project includes various activities, including distributing food parcels to about 200 child headed households in Kanana, financial assistance to HIV infected children whose parents died, financial and spiritual assistance to families during a burial of a member of the family.

- Since 5 years, they also have a day centre for HIV-infected children, where they receive food and education. There are currently admitting 100 children a day.

- In the day centre, young people can also learn various skills such as carpentry, sewing and knitting. The monthly costs are about 13000 rand (1500 euros) for the purchase of food, the staff of the day centre, maintenance etc.
