- Newcastle Crisis Centre was founded and is being managed by Mary Dobbie, a white African with Scottish roots. It may shelter about 20 children and assist approximately 50 children per month.
- It helps victims of domestic violence and child abuse, battered and raped babies, children and women.
- It gives the victims a "safe house" where they can stay as long as necessary and find a place to rest. They offer the people food, clothes and a place to sleep.
- The home is staffed 24 hours a day to provide psychological help, by a team who has experience with victims of rape and abuse.
- NCC cooperates with local police and hospitals. They give advice and guidance on possible further steps, such as medical research, filing complaints, family. The children who were victims of rape, are being assisted in their search for judicial help. When the return to the family is possible, NCC offers them guidance and after-care both to the family and victim.
- The organization gets a little material support from the local population, such as food from the local supermarket and clothes from individuals. All employees do this on a voluntary basis. NCC is in urgent need of money to buy food, a new cookery, oven and toys for the children.
